Week One
It’s been one week since I started my photography class. It’s also the Diwali break, so some students haven’t been able to come every day. But I’m encouraged by what I have seen so far. My students are gaining control over their cameras, they are starting to see light, and they are beginning to capture more candid moments in their community.

Varshal must like to climb because he/she was looking down on the workers. I find it interesting to see what the construction methods are in India. I bet a photo of the scaffolding would be pretty scary.
I like all the photos. They show the students are learning about framing the picture (Dipika) and symmetry (Pavan). I like Santosh’s capture of the child’s expression and the attempt at the use of natural light. I like the whimsical way Jayshri did his/her photo and suspect it is a reflection on a very interesting personality.
But who took the photo of the students? I assume it is of the students in the class? How about a caption so we can tell who is who please.
The photo from the first wk is very interesting in the use of the orange wall behind the two women. Very dramatic. I do not see names associated with those photos so can not comment by name.
Keep it up. Personally I’d like to see photos of the whole college, the vegetation and animals, birds if anyone has time to document those things.
Mom Holmes knows a lot more about photography than I do, but I thought I’d take a shot anyway.
Santosh’s photo struck me the most; it seems that he picked a good profile candidate, which is one thing. But he managed to capture her fearless expression, too.
Varshal’s photo is different from the others in that he is documenting something. Varshal, why did you take this picture? Was it because of the angle, because action was happening- or as Mom Holmes notes, because of some seriously scary scaffolding. Do you want to be a photojournalist in other words?
Awesome project. Please keep posting new stuff all the time.
